As a guest, you have little to worry about other than enjoying yourself&#8230;but there are some basic <strong>boating etiquette<\/strong> rules unique to boating that experienced boaters practice.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It pays to pay attention<\/strong> &#8211; Unlike when your airplane is about take off and no one listens to the stewardess do her safety spiel; it\u2019s pretty important to listen to your captain do his safety briefing before you sail off. You should know the location of the safety gear, <a href=\"https:\/\/boatsetter.com\/boating-resources\/life-jacket-types\">life jackets<\/a>, VHF radio, handheld VHF, flares, flashlights, First Aid Kits, etc. If the captain does not tell you, just ask! Better safe than sorry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The \u201cback where you found\u201d it rule<\/strong> &#8211; We apologize for being obvious&#8230;but when you use something please note where and how it is stored and, we\u2019re sure you would anyway but if you don\u2019t mind, return it to the same location when you\u2019re finished with it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Do a quick scan before you leave <\/strong>&#8211; We know you had so much fun on <a href=\"https:\/\/boatsetter.com\/boating-resources\/renting-a-boat-with-a-captain\">your boating trip; you\u2019re spent and you want to get home and post your photos on Facebook&#8230;but before you hit the trail, do a quick check with your captain<\/a>. Is there anything you need to tend to &#8211; anything you forgot? It won\u2019t take long!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Put some grub in me gullet<\/strong> &#8211; Pirates (and the rest of us) love to eat! Plan ahead and use some best practices for your boat trip&#8230;every boat\u2019s different, it may or may not have a stock of utensils or have reheating capabilities. It\u2019s okay to ask in advance! Also, red wine and any kind of glass should be avoided. <a href=\"https:\/\/boatsetter.com\/boating-resources\/definitive-guide-to-boat-eats\">Finger foods<\/a> tend to work the best for day trips.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Everyone has their vice<\/strong> &#8211; But be careful&#8230;most boats have a non-smoking policy and the US Coast Guard has a zero tolerance policy regarding illegal drug use of any kind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Make a fashion statement, the right way<\/strong> &#8211; Boater- in-the-know dress as stylish (or not) as they want but pay special attention to a <a title=\"15 Things to Bring on Your Next Boat Adventure\" href=\"https:\/\/boatsetter.com\/boating-resources\/things-to-bring-on-your-first-boat-rental\/\">few key things<\/a>. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/boatsetter.com\/boating-resources\/things-not-to-bring-on-a-boat\">shoes will be non-marking with non-skid<\/a> soles and they never wear high heels to go boating! Clothing should be light colored as dark colors can bleed on to the boat\u2019s interior and not too fancy. Weather, ocean spray and spilled drinks &#8211; that\u2019s part of the fun of going boating! Sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat that won\u2019t blow away &#8211; check, now you&#8217;re ready to cruise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boatsetter.com\/boating-resources\/good-marina-etiquette\">Boating is a way of life and with it comes some best practices and boating etiquette<\/a> expectations.
