1969 as a teenager in Sea Scouts in Seattle, Washington, I learned to operate a 52 foot Navy liberty launch upon which we had built a conventional superstructure with traditional bridge, navigation station, etc. Propulsion was a GMC 671 diesel which was operated by a separate crew member based on instructions from the bridge. We also sailed a wide range of sailboats from dinghies to large yachts. 1972-1993 Sailed a variety of yachts from dinghies to 40' recreationally. 1993-present: formed and/or led four Sea Scout groups in San Francisco and Marin County. Operated Sailboats from dinghies to 60' and powerboats from small launches to 50', single and twin screw. Received Captain's license in 1994, renewed in 1998, currently licensed for 200 tons Inland, 100 tons near coastal, auxiliary sail, towing assistance and SCTW Safety Training endorsements. Certified U.S. Keelboat Sailing Instructor to Bareboat Cruising, Coastal Navigation levels, Certified ASA Instructor to Basic Keelboat (201) level. Member, Marin Power Squadron.
