šŸ‘Øā€āœˆļøCaptain: Justin Wong

Captain Justin Wong has been mooching the Puget Sound for since he can remember, fishing the Puget Sound started off as a hobby and soon grew into a passion. Captain Justin strives to create a memorable experience for each and every one of his guests; whether you are an avid angler to a first-timer we can accommodate it all. Captain Justin looks to provide a true Seattle experience through mooching for salmon which originated in the Puget Sound. This technique is hands-on where you will be actively fishing the entire time on the water! Come join us for a true one-of-a-kind Seattle fishing experience!

We offer Salmon, Bottom, and Freshwater fishing.

šŸŸSalmon Fishing:

We utilize hands-on techniques to target salmon in Puget Sound. The main technique we use the majority of the time is called ā€œMoochingā€, Mooching for salmon consists of weight to a 6-foot leader with tandem hooks to a Cut Plug herring. The technique is an active style of fishing where everyone gets their own rod and you will be continuously ā€œworkingā€ your bait throughout the water column. This style creates great fun for all skill levels! There is no better joy than enticing the bite, hooking the fish, fighting, and landing your salmon all on your own!

Another technique we utilize when conditions arise is vertical jigging for salmon. This is also another hands-on active style of fishing. We suspend baitfish pattern jigs in the water column and lift and lower the tip of the rod to create an erratic movement on the jig to resemble a wounded baitfish AKA an easy meal for a salmon!

When salmon are spread out and covering a vast span of water is a must we will utilize trolling methods to target salmon, This is a common practice in the fall months for coho salmon. Most other months we are either mooching or jigging for salmon however when you make a reservation if you prefer one method over the other please specify and we can make notes and accommodate your needs!

šŸŸThe Pacific Northwest is home to 5 different salmon species.

Chinook (King) Salmon, Coho (Silver) Salmon, Chum (Keta) salmon, Sockeye (Red) Salmon, and Pink (Humpy) salmon.

All of these salmon travel through the Puget Sound passing our fishing grounds outside of Seattle for the taking! The main species we target throughout a typical year are King, Coho, and Chum salmon. Every odd year we get a chance to target Pink salmon which only return on odd years. All species are unique in one way or another.

King Salmon are targeted for the better part of the year as we target them in the summer months as returning fish from the months of June through August. The summer kings make up the better part of our summer fishery. These fish are also targeted in the early winter to early spring months as winter kings or also known locally as Blackmouth, the cold doesnā€™t stop us from getting out on the water with a chance at catching these tasty fish! Targeting these fish creates some great memories when fishing with light tackle!

Silver Salmon are targeted in early summer and then again in the months of September through November! Silver salmon are fun fish to target as they are the most inquisitive of the salmon species many times following baits to the surface, biting right at the surface; top 50 feet of water. These aggressive fish create for some great days on the Puget Sound just minutes from Downtown Seattle.

Chum Salmon is one of the other species of salmon targeted in a typical year for us here in Seattle. These fish can be targeted in the months of October and November generally. These fish have some of the most unique colorations of all the species as they often have vertical purple bar stripes whereas most other species tend to get coloration laterally.

Frequently Asked Question's

WHAT IS PROVIDED?

We provide all fishing gear, bottled water, and rain gear upon request.

DOES THE PUGET SOUND GET ROUGH?

The Puget Sound is a protected body of water, yes it is saltwater; but it is not the ocean. There are no ocean swells, just wind chop. The chances of getting seasick for most people are very slim.

HOW DO WE PROCESS OUR CATCH?

Your Captain will clean, fillet, and bag your fish at no extra cost if you want. We do not offer shipping services however we can recommend you to local fish processing markets within minutes of the dock that will take care of your needs from freezing and shipping to custom smoking of your catch and shipping. Wild Salmon Seafood Market and Fresh Fish Company are the two places we recommend to go for freezing and shipping of your fresh catch. B & E Meats can take care of your custom smoking needs as well as shipping with many locations around town.

SHOULD WE BRING FOOD AND BEVERAGES?

Yes, if you want to bring food or beverages they are welcomed aboard, avoid glass if possible. There is a cooler on the vessel for your food so leaving the cooler behind in the car is best. However, you will be so busy fishing you won't have time to eat!

WHAT DO I WEAR?

You should always dress in layers, and prepare for temperatures 10-15 degrees lower than the weather forecast as it is always cooler on the water. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, and if available a pair of boots is never a bad idea. Bringing a rain jacket/ windbreaker is always a good idea as well. Rain gear is available upon request.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DROP A ROD AND REEL?

Any lost or damaged gear will be charged at cost of replacement to be determined by the Captain on the Vessel.

WHAT TIME SHOULD WE EXPECT TO DEPART?

Departures for morning trips vary from 5:30 am to 8 am depending on the time of year and recent fishing patterns. Afternoon trips will vary from 12 pm- 2 pm depending on fishing patterns.

WHAT KIND OF VESSEL DO YOU RUN?

Cut Plug Charter runs Grady White 209 Fishermen. They are center console vessels that allow for a maximum fishing room which is advantageous to our styles of fishing we utilize.

DO YOU HAVE A RESTROOM ON BOARD?

Yes, we have a porta-potty on the vessel.

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU TAKE OUT?

We can comfortably accommodate up to 5 people on our boat.

If you have any questions, send us a message and we can answer them before finalizing your reservation. We look forward to having you!
