This restored, all-wood classic turns heads on the water as you motor up and down the Potomac, taking in the monuments and sights in DC. Unlike modern boats that sacrifice practical deck space for looks, this boat can easily hold 20 people (we've thrown parties with as many as 40 on her at once). 20 is definitely 'full' but still very doable. She sleeps 6 (though you'd have to be pretty good friends to want to put 6 on her), and is a wonderful day-cruising and party boat. She's fully equipped with a full head, galley, and shower (though the hot water isn't so hot these days.) The owner knows the waters well around DC and will be happy to show you were to go, how to get there, where the hot spots are, etc. Popular spots include Mount Vernon, National Harbor, Old Town Alexandria, and of course, the Georgetown waterfront--everyone's favorite boating hangout. It's easy navigation for stress-free boating. And the distances are small, so you won't burn a fortune on fuel like you might in open water.
Unless you can provide evidence that you've got very specific experience captaining twin-engine boats in the upper Potomac, you'll need to rent the boat captained (by me, the owner. )
Contact brent-at-taoti-dot-com for details. We can do private parties, corporate events, provide catering and beverage services, or really, just about anything you'd like. The owner only lives 2 miles from the boat and takes her out every week and is keen on making your trip as pleasant and fulfilling as possible!
If you clean up after yourselves, no cleaning fee will be assessed (otherwise, $50). Fuel and docking fees are extra, but shouldn't be much. For example, Georgetown is a free dock and fuel there and back only runs $80. The owner is very flexible and any extras or whatever can easily be negotiated.
Note: Availability is subject to change without notice. Because we use the boat regularly and usually without notice, the availability chart on this site may not be accurate. Just contact me to check or reserve the time you want--it usually won't be a problem. Though I'm afraid I'm not available on all the days you'd really want to go out (4th of July and other holidays or long weekends.)
A half-day rental is 3-4 hours. Full day is 6-7. I'm happy to refund 100% in the event of bad weather. If you need to cancel otherwise, I'll refund 100% upto a week out, after which I'll refund 75%.
The boat is slipped at 1301 Water St SE DC. There is plenty of free parking there. It's about a 20 minute walk to Navy Yard metro. Possible ports of call for the trip include:
Maine Ave Seafood Market
(free dock, about 30 minutes from home base)
Old Town Alexandria
($20 to dock. About 1.5 hours south of home base)
Georgetown
(free dock, about 1.5 hours north of home base)
"Three Sisters"
(a good place above Key Bridge to drop anchor and hang out)
National Harbor
($40 to dock, about 2 hours south of home base)
That's about as far south as we go, as anything more would just take too long to go and come back on this boat. (She's pretty, but not fast. We cruise at about 7-10 mph.)
I'm happy to provide suggested itineraries if you ideas or recommendations.
A note about Georgetown: this is by far the most popular place we go. The only 'issue' is that it's a very small dock and it's first come, first serve--which means there are always going to be boats there on a weekend. So unless we go early in the day, we will likely have to rely on the kindness of other boaters to let us tie up to them and allow you to climb over their boat to get on/off. It's not an issue 95% of the time, but it is possible that we get up there and have to wait around or find a plan B if there is no way to dock.
There are very few rules on board. You can bring anything you want (that's legal). Pets are not a great idea, but I won't rule them out. Just talk to me first. Kids (a few) are fine. The boat isn't great for anyone who isn't very mobile (ladders, narrow passages, big steps on and off, etc.) We can manage for a few, but I wouldn't plan on taking a seniors cruise if I were you.
As your humble, lovable captain, you should consider me part of your party--not the hired hand--and we'll get along just fine. I will drink your beer (but I'll trade you some fuel it.) If you're nice, I'll let you put your own playlist on (otherwise, we listen to my Jimmy Buffet list on repeat. ;-)
Bonus: If you have any interest in being a repeat customer, I'm quite happy to train you how to drive the boat yourself so that you can take it out far more frequently (for a highly discounted rate. Just contact me for details. brent-at-taoti-dot-com.)
