Relocation! I am in the process of moving and the boat is being relocated to a Marina in Port Orchard. (not assigned a slip at this point.
The Macgregor 26x is a great weekend family boat that sails well and can go up to 15-17 MPH under power with it's brand new 50HP 4-stroke outboard. The swing keel and water ballist make this an easy boat to handle. sleeps 4 people in comfort and has an enclosed head for privacy.
It has an alcohol stove built in for fixing meals and a comfortable table to gather around. Built in floatation makes this boat virtually unsinkable. All new rigging and sails. The head sail is roller furled for ease of sail handling. I am always glad to take people out for a preview sail. Just contact me and lets GO!
Renting from Tom couldn't be any easier. My girlfriend and I rented his sailboat for a night to try and find Orcas in the Puget Sound. Although we weren't able to find orca we saw all kinds of wildlife. Tom made it easy for us to get out and go with little sailing experience. I highly suggest doing this, you won't regret it.
We had a great time on Saturday. Tom had the boat all ready to go. The weather was fantastic. We would definitely rent from Tom again.
One small note, the listing said Kitsap Marina but the GPS called it Port Orchard Marina so just go to D-dock on Port Orchard Marina downtown.
Great experience renting from Tom, perfect location, the boat was in excellent condition and Tom was very accomodating on scheduling and providing a briefing on the boat and the cruising areas. I would definitely rent from Tom again, only this time for a longer trip!
We had a great time on this boat. Perfect for a day sail around oak harbor. It was my first time learning to sail and the boat was very user friendly and easy to learn. Tom was extremely helpful in getting out and in. I would absolutely recommend Tom and his boat to anyone looking for a good experience!!
Tom, was a pleasure to deal with. Was responsive when we needed anything and even offered mooring suggestions based on his local knowledge of the area. We would definitely rent Tom's MacGregor again, it was a joy to sale. We even saw a pod of orca whales on our way home, one breached less than 60' from our boat while we were under sail. It was so cool.
Pros: Tom is fantastic! Very responsive and he spent a lot of time with us helping plan our trip. The MacGregor's engine is very powerful and is a nice backup if you get caught in a current. It really moves 20+ knots. We had 4 adults sleeping on it for 2 nights, and it was very comfortable. The boat is in great shape. Island hoping was amazing. Tons of fun.
Cons: This was my first trip to the San Juans, and the currents made things challenging. We didn't make it as far as we wanted in 3 days, but still had a good trip. I also found the MacGregor a bit challenging. It is very light and behaved more like a motor boat in harbors, but I may just not have been used to it.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this boat. Give Tom a call if you have any questions and he'll answer any questions you have!
We had a great time and Tom was very helpful. The location is ideal for cruising the San Juans. The boat is older so needs some minor work but overall is in good condition. It's very easy to handle and the new 50hp motor is a real plus. We had 5 people on board (2 adults, 3 kids), so it was tight but still comfortable.
My fiancé and I initially rented Toms boat for 4 days to goto the San Juans. I have only sailed smaller crafts and he showed me the ropes on the MacGregor. It was easy to learn and we were off after about an hour of guidance. It's nice to have the option of dropping the water ballast and using the 50 hp motor option when wind was light. Cruises past all the other sailboats at almost 20-22 mph max under motor. It sailed really well and spent several full days sailing without a hitch. I plan on buying that same model of boat for myself in Maui now.. The trip ended up being the one of the best experiences we have ever had. Boat came equipped for the multi-day overnight excursion and we only got off the boat to take showers and get supplies. This is great boat to rent , easy to use and super safe and can handle big swells if caught in rough water. Also Tom is a great guy and let us to extend an extra day because we were having such a good time I would recommend it to all my friends for a nice San Juan get-away and look forward to another trip next summer!
Tom's boat is very roomy for a boat this size. It easily accommodated 4 adults and 3 small kids for day sailing. It is easy to handle but you need to pay more attention to motoring in tight space because the outboard also doubles as a steering rudder when motor is on.
Tom took care of everything before we board and patiently waited for us to return in the evening. All on board had a wonderful day sailing. Thanks.
Tom is really amazing. He is amazingly good. We didn't have any boating experience, so at last Tom has to accompany us on the boat. He guided us the afternoon tour. He even skipped his lunch.
He is really a nice senior worthy highest respect and trust.
Tom was easy to work with and his boat was in excellent condition. He even volunteered to meet us at his boat, the day before our rental, to familiarize us with its operation so that we would be ready to go on the day of our rental.
We had a great time and I would definitely rent from Tom again.
