Christian is my first boat renter. He had no life jackets so I loaned him 3 adult life jackets and 1 child life jacket. He had no trailer hitch, so I loaned him one of mine. He towed the boat 60-miles away (120-miles round-trip) to Tomales Bay on really windy roads, then complained afterward that the left trailer tire looked a little worn (it isn't). He could not start the outboard motor engine on Sunday morning because the transmission was not in neutral (the throttle handle has to be exactly centered for the electric starting motor to engage), so he took off the engine cover and beat (tapped) on the solenoid......totally unnecessary and probably caused damage, but he eventually got engine started and had no further problems. I'm not certain this boat rental worked out as well as I hoped.....I have not yet inspected the Zodiac because I am away on travel. Below is the e-mail Christian sent me after returning the boat: Hi Steve, I have attached a couple of photos of our adventure. We ended up at Marshall Beach on Tomales Bay - beautiful spot that is accessible by boat only! The boat did great though I did have a bit of trouble getting it started on Sunday morning. Here is what happened: - turned the key got the beep and a click from the engine but no turn over - figured there was a battery problem - checked the terminals - maybe overnight oxidation (?) - appeared ok but unfastened a turn and refastened both positive and negative terminals - made no difference - turned key and just a click - tested bilge pump and it was working to verify battery power - pulled engine cover to listen to where click was coming from - appeared to be the started solenoid (?) - tapped this while turning key and engine started Not really sure what was happening here but you should know that something may be up with one or the other system - maybe nothing but worth having a look at, that said, the boat started later with no problems. The only other thing worth mentioning is that the left side tire appears worn (noticed this when putting the chock under it) - not an emergency but could be easily overlooked. Thanks again for the use of your boat! Be well, Christian
Steve was a pleasure to deal with. He is an oceanographer by profession and spends a lot of time in and around boats - he is very knowledgeable and provided clear instructions for operating the vessel. The boat itself was great - a fully rigged Zodiac ready for whatever adventure you'd want - in our case a trip to a boat accessible beach in the Point Reyes National Park for an overnight camp.
This is an exceptional boat and perfect for the Bay. The boat is in the condition as promised and is very spacious. It actually looks even better in person. It is beautifully detailed and stands out in crowd. My crew praised the looks and comfort. With the twin engines, it is fast and quite maneuverable. It handled some very choppy seas with aplomb. I would rent this boat again if given the opportunity.
Everything about our charter with Mike was smooth sailing. A great boat to view Americas Cup Finals and sail 18 knot winds in the Bay. A perfect day. Thanks Mike, for providing a very enjoyable experience for my family!
Dan was excellent! We went out to watch the America's Cup races and Dan positioned his boat so that we constantly had the best viewing position. Unlike most of the other boats that stayed in one place Dan continued to sail and give us great commentary on the race and made the sailing and viewing a wonderful experience for all of us. His enthusiasm for boating was evident for the entire day - we felt more like family friends than guests paying to be on his boat. We will definitely come back for another day of sailing with Dan - we all had a wonderful time!
