“I am a professional sailor and sailing instructor with over thirty years sailing on SF Bay (and elsewhere). I would love to show you some of the best sailing in the world aboard my comfortable 34' sloop.”
Aboard since 2014

My friends and I had a great experience on Doug's boat. I took the boat out in June and had a great experience in windy conditions. This trip was similar, with even stronger winds coming out of the Gate. We opted to sail straight for the Gate, but despite strong winds and intense conditions this upwind sail was slow going due to the strong incoming current. We were able to find some relief from the current by hugging the south side of Angel Island, though. There were about 72 boats racing downwind with chutes up as part of a regatta hosted by Doug's club, we really enjoyed watching the show.
Doug was a really helpful and friendly steward of his boat. Doug met us at the dock around 10am and patiently walked use through his checklist. He also walked me through a practice docking, although his slip and setup make docking pretty easy.
We sailed north around Angel Island before turning South into the wind channel created by the Golden Gate. I was impressed with the boat's responsiveness in very heavy winds (~25 knots). The boat was in great shape and we had a great time in the bay.
We coordinated our return time with Doug, and he met us to check back in when we returned to his slip. Nothing but positive things to say about our experience; I hope to be able to get back out on the water soon.
Choices is a lovely day sailer and Doug is a thorough host. He took the time to go over all the systems. One note is to make sure the bilge is dry. It is only a couple inches deep and when the boat heels water can potentially sneak over the floorboards. No need for alarm, she is a sturdy and able sailor.
Choices was an excellent sailboat well suited to sailing San Francisco Bay - sporty, beefy, and fast all at the same time. Choices has been optimized for day sails and races. If you think you might reef, which is common on the Bay, you might ask if the reefing line has been updated and tested (I noted to Doug that the current system suffices, though it prevents the clew being hauled fully down and out). Doug is a busy man but is jovial and will give helpful advice for planning your sail and navigating the Bay. In our case, Doug was generous enough to let us take the boat out for several days in a row. Doug noted to us that the boat is usually only taken out for day sails, so it must be taken with a grain of salt that our cruise could have been better if he had been straightforward about a pre-existing leak in the black water system, returned with the propane tank he'd taken to refill, and included a charger with the handheld radio he provided after we found that the main radio worked only intermittently. Overall, we had a fantastic trip after pumping out the black water tank and obtaining a small stove in Sausalito. Potentially a capable and comfortable boat, Choices is worth your consideration.
Enjoyed the boat very much, it was all that was advertised, and we had a wonderful day on the Bay. We had 6 big-sized adults on the boat and there was plenty of room. The boat was fun to sail, and performed very well when the wind picked-up in the late afternoon.
