I have been boating and fishing in Ocean City waters since the mid-1980’s when my father bought a 36′ Chris Craft fishing boat, “Skeeter”. I was immediately hooked and began fishing with him and working as mate on local charter boats throughout high school. I earned my first USCG 6-passenger license at 18-years old and captained inshore and canyon charters throughout college. I also worked on other boats, competing in billfish tournaments in NJ, Florida and Bimini, and crewed on a 50′ sailboat in a transatlantic regatta from the Canary Islands to San Salvador, Bahamas. In the mid-1990’s, I went to work in the business world and started a family but continued to fish and run boats as time permitted. Since then, I have run 42′, 51′ and 63′ Bertams, a 20′ Bayliner, and a 24′ Robalo in South Jersey and Florida with multiple ICW runs in between. After 2020 and all its challenges, I decided to again pursue my passion for boating and renewed my OUPV 6-passenger license. I purchased a beautiful 27′ World Cat Dual Console and opened “Shore Thing Charters”. I hope to see you on the water soon~ Capt. Mike Bernert
