A blessed life on the: I grew up in Edenton NC on the Albemarle Sound. My dad was actually from Iowa had married a North Carolinian from the mountains no less but had spent summers on the lakes in Minnesota sailing small boats. His dream was to live on the water and have a sailboat. My mom did not even know how to swim. He bought his first sail boat in 1965 when I was only 4 years old. A rugged 21 foot sail boat with a small cabin. Back then few boats were made of fiberglass and spotting a sail boat was rare in eastern NC. There was only one sailboat other than my dad’s an older wooden sailboat rarely used by the retired Episcopal minister. He raised quote a few eyebrows and to top it off he really loved windy days regardless of the time of year. We broke ice more than once to take our annual Christmas day sail. By the time I was 16 I was solo sailing the boat from Edenton to the Outer Banks and as far south as Wilmington where I think I might have convinced my wife to marry me. Sailing in coastal of NC gave me valuable life lessons on being prepared and what to do when things go wrong and well as helping learn basic chart reading and navigation skills. Edenton had a thriving fishing business and I had great opportunities to experience the last fishing era in the area where we would pull nets hundreds of yards and encircle fish and scoop them in the floor of these boats. My dad even got convinced to buy a power boat with a partner to teach us water-skiing, which at the time was a very popular and rising sport in the 70’s. Much to his chagrin I loved power boats and it became my dream to be a pro water-skier. My wife and I were lucky enough to have dumb luck and find professional career on the Outer Banks of NC. I was am still am a banker and she was the nicest tax collector the state has every employed for a few years until we had our three boys. We shared our love of being on the water with our three boys both sailing and power boats. In 2006 with one still in middle school and two in college I decided to get my USCG Captains license. I would create a summer water-ski and wakeboard business to teach my sons some business lessons and to give them a summer job for the next many years through college. What a fun time we had by year three the boys had their USCG license and were kicking me out of the boat. While my boys are grown I continue to operate OBX wakeboard & Water-Ski but missed the adventures of traveling the coastal waterways of Eastern NC and had my sights set on northern waters as far north as Maine for waterway adventures. In 2024 I purchased a spectacular boat a Chris Craft Catalina 30. With this boat we can take families from Duck to Oregon inlet and overnight trips to Ocracoke. There is so much to see and funs things to do. Towns to stop at for dinning, watching the fishing fleet come in, doing our in inshore or off shore fishing, Spear fishing off the wrecks of the Carolina coast, sunsets, and dolphins to see just to name a few. We operate on the OBX from 5-15 until 6-21. Then we head to our Northern retreat in Maine where I have been going for over 50 years to explore the coast of Maine. Our cottage in Maine is about 10 miles from Boothbay Harbor. Last year we pulled our boat to Maine for the first time and took trips from Georgetown to Deer Island traveling over 300 miles in a few days. There is so much to see on the Maine coast lighthouses and islands all around. We are excited about offering our services in Maine from 7-1 until the 8-3. Then we are back in Carolina until we shut down in October on the 15th each year. Come join us on the water we can tailor any trip you can think of.
