NOTE: The San Francisco Bay is a world-renowned sailing mecca, but it also implies challenging or sometimes unforgiving conditions. In most summer afternoons, the central bay is known for high winds and choppy seas, so venturing into the central bay or north bay in those times should only be attempted by experienced sailors. If you’re relatively new to boating or to this specific boat model (or if you’re not sure and have to ask), start with a 2-hour to 4-hour rental, and stay south of the Bay Bridge, if not within the Oakland estuary.
NOTE: If you do decide to sail beyond the Oakland estuary (into the south bay, central bay or north bay), check National Weather Service Marine Forecast by Googling “nws marine weather san francisco bay” and following the first link, before leaving the dock. Make sure you check the section relevant to your destination (“San Pablo Bay, Suisun Bay, the West Delta and the San Francisco Bay north of the Bay Bridge”, “San Francisco Bay South of the Bay Bridge”, etc.) and plan accordingly. Since this is just a forecast, use your judgment when you observe the actual condition.
