Hello my name is Kevin Gillette and I am a 28 year old mariner with a strong passion for working on the water. I grew up sailing and fishing on the waters of Pensacola, FL and the Gulf of Mexico. For the last several years I have been living and working on the waters of San Diego, Seattle WA, Prince William Sound and Southeast Alaska, Palau/Micronesia, Gulf of Mexico, Florida, California, The South Pacific, SE Asia, Central America, India Ocean, Persian Gulf, Gulf of Aden, and the Caribbean. This vessel runs fishing charters in the San Diego area and on the Pacific waters of the U.S. and Mexico. (This is a part-time position) M/Y Mobillity (84ft) 10/2010-04/2011 Florida - Caribbean Mate • As the mate I was responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the exterior of the yacht. Specifically including wash downs, painting, polishing, stripping, varnishing, waxing, awlgrip, cleaning engines, and maintaining the various water toys aboard and tender. In this position I was hired as a temporary to help during the yard period and the delivery of the yacht from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Nanny Cay, BVI's and back. While underway I was one of the standing watch officers, and assisted in the planning of courses and navigation. M/Y Aghassi (145ft) 8/2010-10/2010 Pacific Northwest 2nd Mate • As a 2nd Mate I was responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the exterior of the yacht. Specifically including wash downs, painting, polishing, stripping, varnishing, waxing, awlgrip, cleaning engines, and maintaining the various water toys aboard, which included jet skis, and tender’s. Also I pitched in and assisted with interior service when guests are aboard. • Bridge Duties included being one of the standing watch officers while underway, and assisting with navigation. Cruise West (160ft) 4/2009 –8/2010 Coastal Alaska/Pasific Northwest/Columbia River Mate/Boatswain • Vessel duties - I performed hourly engine and security rounds. Under direction of the Chief Mate and Chef Engineer I was also responsible for the maintenance and appearance of vessel including but not limited to painting, varnishing, bunkering fuel and water, taking on ship’s stores, and handling mooring lines. • Bridge duties included assisting the officer on watch with steering, chart work, lookout and use of bridge electronics. • Safety duties – I performed duties of Emergency Station Bill for drills and actual emergencies that include fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, and spill response. • Zodiac and Dib (small boat) operation: Responsibilities include safe operation of small boats, daily upkeep of small boats in conjunction with vessel engineering staff. • Guest Services – As a passenger vessel I had a lot of interaction with guests including assisting guests at gangway, servicing staterooms, and keeping lookout for wildlife. Pensacola Yacht Club 5/2008 – 4/2009 Pensacola, FL Sail Instructor • I taught basic sailing, racing, safety and teamwork to kids ages 5-16. • I drove the chase/safety boat. • Duties also included preparation and maintenance of boats, sailing equipment and supplies. Deliveries and Day Work 8/04/13-8/11/13 Delivery of 98ft M/Y Rest Assured from San Diego, CA to Seattle, WA. I was acting as first mate and pilot in Pudget Sound. 8/2011-9/2011 Delivery of 81ft M/Y Hayfu II from Pensacola, FL to Bayou La Batre, Alabama for yard periode. I was mate for this delivery and spent two weeks in the yard with this yacht. 6/2011-8/2011 Day work for a live a board dive company, Sams Tours, in Palau. I helped assist with dive trips, fill tanks, and help costumers. Also volunteering with local surf camps and coral research projects. 4/2011-5/2011 Delivery of 41ft S/Y from Seattle, WA to Newport, Oregon. I was Skipper on this delivery which was owned by the non-profit Live Oceans.
