The day is finally here! You have rented a boat and are finally ready to set sail on the perfect family adventure. A day on the water is a lot of fun, but a little preparation will go a long way to make sure everybody has an amazing time. Check out this short guide on how to make family boating easier with a homemade boat kit! Here are our tips to make family boating easier:
What to Wear
Knowing how to dress can be really difficult. Even if the sun is shining and it is quite hot on land, things change quickly on the sea. You also have to contend with greater UV intensity of the sun reflecting off the water so make sure you have lots of sunscreen. You'll most likely want to jump in the water, so it is better to be wearing your swimsuit instead of having to change on the boat. You will also need:
- Light, waterproof jacket
- Change of clothes (doesn’t hurt to bring one additional set too!)
- Slip-resistant waterproof sandals or shoes
What to Eat and Drink
Even if you are a skilled fisherman and can catch, clean and prepare fish on the boat, you will definitely want some food. This is doubly true if you are planning on a long day of sun and swimming. Pack a cooler full of sandwiches, cold drinks and water. You really can’t have too much water—trust us, you don’t want to feel the irony of being thirsty while surrounded by miles and miles of water.
It is also good to have some dry snacks like chips, crackers and nuts in case anyone is not feeling too well. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also try to bring a grill and have a little cookout right on the boat!
Important Additional Items
There are a few additional items that we suggest that you bring on your fun family outing. You'll want to bring some plastic zip lock bags so you have somewhere safe to keep your phone, wallet and other important accessories. It's important to check with the boat owner on what items are included in the boat rental. Feel free to ask about any added extras: floaties, fins, goggles, watersport equipment or even an extra cooler if you're going fishing. Double checking will definitely give you an idea of whether or not you should bring your own personal add-ons.
Your Day Made Easier
There are so many exciting family activities on a boat. Now that you have everything you need, you can start thinking about the fun part- planning what you are going to do first. Is today going to be the first time everyone tries out wakeboarding? Or is it a day for relaxing and catching some fish? Whatever you are going to do, you are now ready for anything!
