Fishing on Grapevine Lake

Grapevine Lake, Texas.

At Grapevine Lake, you will have the chance to fish for smallmouth and largemouth bass, spotted bass, white bass, white crappie, channel catfish, blue catfish, flathead catfish, and alligator gar.

Largemouth bass, blue catfish, and white bass are rated as “excellent” for fishing by the TPWD of Texas. Smallmouth bass, spotted bass, and channel catfish are marked as “good”.

During floods, the water levels stretch into terrestrial vegetation and make for an excellent fishing opportunity. The flooded timber areas of Twin Coves usually yield good results for crappie. The boathouses at McPherson Slough generally attract fish who like to hide under and near the homes.

You are most likely to find bass at the lake’s many drop-offs, shorelines, and submerged boulders.

Tire Reef is in front of the Grapevine Spillway.

We’ve got another Pro Fishing Tip for you:

If you prefer to fish in vegetation-dense zones, you should go to the upper end of the lake!

Here are the fishing regulations on Grapevine Lake:

  • Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass have a minimum size of fourteen inches and a bag limit of five.
  • Blue catfish have a bag limit of twenty-five.
  • White bass have a bag limit of twenty-five and a minimum size of ten inches.
  • Channel catfish also have a bag limit of twenty-five.
  • Spotted bass have a bag limit of five.

You can get your annual fishing license here, whether you are a Texas resident or not. Texas residents qualify for the purchase of lifetime fishing licenses, too.

Swimming in Grapevine Lake

Grapevine Lake, Texas.

It is safe to swim in Grapevine Lake. The best swimming spots are on the south side of the lake. Here, you’ll find several designated swimming zones with artificial beaches, gently sloping shorelines, and family-friendly swimming opportunities.

Meadowmere Park is the most popular swimming zone on Grapevine Lake. It is easy to access, has some pretty views, and lets swimmers have a place to swim on the main body of water on Grapevine Lake.

Vineyard’s Campgrounds, Katie’s Woods, and Lakeview Park are also popular swimming zones on the south side of Lake Grapevine.

You may, of course, swim from your boat on the lake. Just be aware of your surroundings (especially other boaters); this is a fun and unforgettable experience.

Dove Waterpark, Pleasant Gladew Pool, and the REC Indoor Aquatic Center are all owned and operated by the City of Grapevine and offer several fine swimming opportunities. There are six other fun beaches near Dallas and Fort Worth that are worth checking out.
