Wake Up, Fish, Repeat: How Tyler Brick Turned His Passion into Purpose
Last Updated on June 27, 2025 by Boatsetter Team
Our team is united by a shared mission: making life on the water more accessible for everyone and few embody that mission more fully than Boatsetter Fishing’s Tyler Brick, whose journey from childhood fishing trips to cross-country adventures has come full circle in his work today.
For Tyler, it all began on quiet Minnesota mornings, waking before dawn to fish with his grandpa. What started as a family tradition became a lifelong passion that shaped his career. Years later, during a nationwide tour in a giant fish-shaped camper promoting youth fishing, he encountered Boatsetter at the Bassmaster Classic, and found a new way to bring his passion to more people.
What’s your earliest memory of boating, fishing or an on-the-water (OTW) adventure?
Some of my earliest memories of fishing go back to when I was 4 or 5 years old. My entire life, we spent almost every weekend at my grandparents’ place in central Minnesota. Most of the family would sleep in while my grandpa woke me up at 5 a.m. to go fishing on the boat.
It was something I looked forward to all week, whether we caught fish or not (we usually did). This tradition lasted until I graduated high school — and it’s still something we do today.
When did you realize your passion for fishing could be something bigger than just a hobby?
Fishing has always been a passion of mine. Back in middle school, I became friends with someone whose dad was a professional fisherman. He fished tournaments across the country, worked as a marketing manager for a rep group and ran social media accounts for companies in the outdoor industry.
He was basically paid to fish, and that was the moment I realized it was possible to turn something I loved into a career. From then on, I made it a priority to take advantage of every opportunity that came my way — and that mindset is what led me to where I am today.
How did that journey lead you to Boatsetter?
That drive to turn a hobby into a career led me on a journey across the country. During COVID, my friend and I were given the opportunity to travel for a major brand called Mystery Tackle Box in a large camper known as the Bassmobile. It was kind of like the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, but instead of a hot dog, it was a giant largemouth bass.
Our mission was to promote the sport of fishing while getting kids and families involved along the way. Our biggest event of the year was the Bassmaster Classic, the Super Bowl of bass fishing. That’s where I met Luke and Ed, the directors of Boatsetter’s fishing vertical. They introduced me to Boatsetter and explained how it works. I was super intrigued and thought it was so cool that their job — just like mine — was focused on helping more people get on the water. As I transitioned out of that role, I saw a new opportunity to continue growing within the outdoor industry through Boatsetter.
Could you tell us a little bit about your role? How does it reflect what you love outside of work?
At Boatsetter, my role is all about getting as many people on the water as possible so they can experience what makes it so special. I work closely with captains, guides and rental owners to ensure they’re set up for success — whether they’re listing a bass boat in Minnesota or running fishing charters in Texas.
From onboarding new owners to building strategic partnerships, everything I do is focused on helping more people create unforgettable memories on the water. The best part is that it doesn’t feel like work. I get to collaborate with people who are just as passionate about fishing, boating and the outdoor industry as I am, which makes the work incredibly rewarding.
Got any interesting or fun stories from your time at Boatsetter?
Yeah, last fall on Lake Lewisville in Texas. A father of a junior bass angler reached in a last-minute scramble to find a boat for an upcoming tournament. The angler’s usual partner had a scheduling conflict with another Texas High School Bass tournament that same weekend, which meant the junior angler would be fishing solo and potentially missing a key event needed to qualify for the state tournament.
We jumped in to help, quickly connected them with a top Owner who not only provided a tournament-ready boat but also shared local knowledge about the lake. That junior angler was still able to compete and qualify for state and ended up having some success.
Wow! That really makes me think about how Boatsetter is truly a unique marketplace.
Yes, what’s really great about Boatsetter is that it’s the only platform that brings together lifelong boaters, whether they’re seasoned anglers or licensed, and people who are curious about boat life together. You could’ve grown up on the water or are just looking for a fun thing to do, it doesn’t matter — Boatsetter makes it easy for anyone, anywhere to find an on-the-water experience. And from an owner’s perspective, it’s a win-win. Instead of letting their boat sit idle in a driveway or marina, owners can turn it into a source of passive income. It’s truly great.
