I messaged John requesting to book his Malibu I-ride for a surprise birthday gift for my boyfriend (his birthday was 2 days after Labor Day). It was a really short notice, which was less than 2 weeks, but John still approved my request. As the day was coming closer, I kept monitoring the ever-changing weather forecast predicting thunderstorm on the day of the boat rental. Worried as I was on the night prior to the rental day, I sent a message to John asking if there is another option I can take in case the thunderstorm comes. Honestly, I was not expecting him to respond or give me options because of the less than 24-hour of request. John was prompt to respond to my message, even in the beginning, and very considerate to give me an option to cancel the rental and move it to another day. He even told me to wait until the next morning to check the weather and let him know if I decide to continue renting his boat that day. I was very glad that I waited until the next morning because it turned out to be the most wonderful day to be out in the Lake using John’s boat. My boyfriend was delighted and very much enjoyed his surprise birthday gift after 6 years of not being able to go on a boat and do watersports. There was nobody else in the lake aside from 3 jet skis that passed by. It was a perfect day to wake board and cruise around without worrying other boats or people in the water. Additionally, John provided us watersports equipment we needed with no charge: tubes, skis, and wakeboards. He even helped us dock the boat. The Malibu I-ride is obviously not brand-new but it was clean, well-taken care of, and runs really well. It was my first time renting a boat from a stranger but I was very satisfied to the boat and the service that was provided by John. Considerably, he is a good man and very considerate to one’s needs and worries. My boyfriend and I assured him that we will be returning customers. I most definitely recommend to everyone who would like to spend a romantic day, a sporty day, a birthday, or even just a regular day in Lake Anna to rent a boat/boats from John. He will do the best he can to make your time worthwhile.

My wife and I had a great day cruising the lake thanks to a very pleasant experience renting from John. He showed up and quickly got us in the water. As a learning boater I appreciated the docking instructions: his advice was succinct and sufficient to get us where we needed to go. My only small gripe was the boat windscreen could have used a quick wash but I didn’t hit anything so everything worked out. I can’t wait to rent from John again.

We took the family wake boarding. This Centurion is a little older but it runs great and responds well. John took the time to explain how the boat works and he was there on time for both drop off and pick up.

John was fantastic, arranging to launch the boat where it was most convenient for us.

We had a problem of our doing. With an inboard, steering is more like a Waverunner than like an outboard motor, it only steers when the motor is running. When picking up a skier, we ran over the rope with the motor off. Not thinking about the motor, we had to advance slowly to steer and ended up winding the rope around the propeller. We needed to cut the rope away from the propeller which is not easy with an inboard motor.

John wants to make sure you have a great time. Always responsive and willing to meet you wherever you are on Lake Anna to make it easy to get on the water. Great selection of water toys and expert advice about staying safe out there. Second year renting from John and nothing but good times. Highly recommend.

We had a great day with John's Malibu. The boat is in good condition and was great for a day of skiing and wakeboarding on the lake. John came out with us in the morning and gave us some pointers on skiing and towing riders. Would 100% rent again.

John was great to work with and was very accommodating. I'd rent from him again. My only ding on the review is for the maintenance of the boat. There were a number of things not working (radio, running lights, speedometer worked intermittently). The boat went out of commission for us for 1/2 a day and John was able to come out and troubleshoot and fix it to get us back running again and gave us some extra time with the boat to make up for our down time.

This is the second time I rented with John. I tell you - I rent boats through Boatsetter quite a lot and John is THE BEST and EASIEST owner to deal with. His boats are in a very good condition and made specifically for watersports. He is extremely accommodating and courteous. Looking to come back at least once again this season.

We were staying on the private side of Lake Anna and we would not have been able to rent a boat if it wasn't for John being able to deliver the boat to the community ramp where we were renting a house. The boat is in very good shape and drives great. We had a truly awesome day. The only item worth noting is that the boat is pictured with large rear facing speakers which were not actually present on the boat when we rented it...but don't let that stop you!

This is the second year in a row we have rented from John. It was great once again.

Boat was in good enough condition and ran flawlessly. John was 1/2 hour late to drop off and pick up the boat. John was friendly  initially, but accused me of blowing up the boat engine when he couldn't get it started at pick up. Very rude and immediately assumed a catastrophic failure, blamed me and explicitly said I was lying to him. " WHAT DID I DO" & " it would be easier if I'd just tell the truth"

I would only rent from John again if he was a last resort/ last boat available on the lake

Great boat. Unreliable owner. The boat was great. We had no problems with it. It drove beautifully. The opportunity to use ski and rafting equipment was fantastic. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience with the owner. He was very responsive when we first booked, then I didn’t hear from him again until 9:30pm the night before our rental despite the fact I called and messaged repeatedly. When he finally called he said he had broken him computer and he couldn’t give me a time we’d meet the next morning, but he promised to text me over night. That would have been fine, but he didn’t text so I had to follow up again in the morning. He said he’d meet us at 9:30. At 9:45, I texted to ask where he was, he didn’t respond till 10 saying he was running late but would be there in 20 more minutes. At 10:30 I called and he didn’t answer, but then ten minutes later he called back to say he didn’t know when he’d be there. He finally showed around 11. Then he was rude and unprofessional. He had a litany of reasons why he late. Then the first thing he said was “you can’t put this boat in shallow water or you’ll damage the prop and have to pay me $500”. We were pretty shocked because he says he rents in lake Anna all the time and the area we were in was very shallow! So we had to completely change where we stored the boat overnight which was so frustrating. If this was so important it was the first thing he said when he got out of the truck he should have mentioned it BEFORE I rented when I was asking him questions. He was so insistent about damaging the prop that I became concerned he was going to accuse of damage regardless (his profile also says he repairs boats) so I took pictures of the prop to be clear we caused no damage. I will say he was gracious and let us keep the boat late our second day which made up in my mind for the lateness the day before (though not the rudeness of the lack of communication which meant I was sitting at a dock waiting instead of socializing with my relatives) But when he picked up the boat we were again concerned he was trying to pull one over on damage. The prop was perfect ( we gain took pictures), but then he seemed to try to say we “bent the upholstery on a seat”, we pointed out that the seat had no support under it and collapsed and that we hadn’t caused the damage, the collapsing did (he also had provided no warning and our kids stepped on getting in and out of the boat, which was fine until he tried to say we messed it up). But he agreed it wasn’t our fault and everyone left.

John was a superb Owner. Boat was in great condition and ran great. Very generous with equipment that comes with boat ( tubes, skis, boards). Accommodating with logistical arrangements and overall easy to rent from.

John's Malibu I-Ride was the perfect boat rental for our weekend trip to Lake Anna. John was very accommodating, knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive. He dropped the boat off at our private slip that came with our rental house. He took time to go over the boat, but wasn't overbearing about it. He has a relaxed demeanor and just wants to make sure you enjoy yourself. He checked with me the day before to see what water toys we wanted to use (no additional charge). The boat has a few years, but ran flawlessly with plenty of power. I will absolutely rent this boat from John again and I'd recommend him to others. Happy boating!

John was terrific! The boat was nice, but the most important thing was the customer service. We rented a skiboat from John and a tritoon elswewhere. When acquiring the skiboat from John he took plenty of time educating us on that particular model of boat and how best to handle it. Later in the week, John took quite a bit of time fielding question and providing counsel regarding an issue with the tritoon we'd rented from a what appeared to be a shady group. In addition, when returning the skiboat to John, we brought the tritoon along to ferry us back to our rental home. We were planning to gas up the tritoon at the marina where we met John. We were a bit low and the fuel indicator was not clearly registering just how low. However, the marina was closed, leaving us concerned we might run out of fuel on the lake. John offered to bring a can of gas and rescue us if we ran out of fuel on our return trip. We will always look to rent from John first!

The boat was great and John was terrific to work with. We took him up on his offer and had him coach and drive for a couple of hours. We'll definitely be heading back out again, soon!

John was very accommodating with our rental - we had a couple early issues that delayed the rental start, and he was flexible with extending the rental time accordingly. Additionally, when we were ready to bring it back, something popped up with which we needed assistance, and John went out of his way to make sure it was taken care of. We really enjoyed our experience on John's boat. There were 7 of us, and we took out a tube, water skis, a wakeboard, and a kneeboard. We were nervous because we had very little experience driving a boat, but John showed us everything we needed. It was very easy to drive his boat, and the kids had a great time. Boat was pretty much as advertised and John was helpful with drop off and pickup. It ran pretty well overall and was everything we needed for family tubing and skiing.

READ BEFORE RENTING: This is an inboard boat that operates a little differently than an traditional outboard or stern drive.

With that being said, John showed me how to operate the boat and how to properly maneuver which was extremely helpful and made my life easier (so I wouldn't end up on Qualified Captain). Do not let your ego get in the way and allow John to show you the ropes if you've never driven a boat like this.

John provided everything we needed for a fabulous fathers day on the lake. The Cyclone tow boat is in top condition and we had all necessary equipment to enjoy the beautiful day. John was great to work with for the duration of our rental. The boat looked a little older on the outside, but the boat was in excellent working order and met out needs perfectly (MasterCraft). John provided some gas cans to help gas the boat up since there are no options on the water for gas. We made some great memories on the water and the boat performed superbly. John is very knowledgeable and even offered to drive for me to do some slalom skiing. I would definitely rent from him again!

John''s Malibu is a great boat. Perfect for groups of mixed interests. Great ski boat for slalom and works great with the wedge down for wakeboarders.

John is a great renter and was extremely helpful. The boat has a great "rampy" wake to wakeboard from 21 to 23 mph (the speeds we used) and the floating wedge added a little more peak at the top. The boat ran extremely well and the prop was in excellent shape. The boat did not vibrate at all and came out of the hole really well with not much throttle. So much better than another boat we had for a day or two before that one just stopped running altogether. John was really great to work with!

Rented Johns I-Ride Malibu boats again this past weekend. Everything on the boat worked very well and the boat really runs good. We had an incident with the pull toy rope which got caught in the prop and John and his sons came out to our location to remove the rope and get us back up and running again. I cant say enough about John and his very pleasant demeanor and the quality of his boats. We will certainly go out again this year before the summer is out on another one of his rides. He offered us this Malibu in its place and it worked perfectly for our needs. This was our first time on Lake Anna and our first time renting a boat. John was a most gracious host and he made our day very enjoyable. He gave us lots of good advice and explanations about how to use the boat. It helped us have the best day possible. We will rent from John again. He even came back when we discovered we had left something on the boat after he left. Thank you John.

John provided a great boat for us to use for wakeboarding and barefooting. He is extremely responsive and went above and beyond the call of duty to help us out when I messed up and bent the prop on the rental boat. He made sure our fun on the water was not unduly interrupted and let us use his other boat since it was not being rented that weekend. Both boats were in very good mechanical condition with speed controls included which makes pulling riders and footers extremely easy. Great service!

I had the pleasure of meeting up with John last weekend and rented his Malibu I Ride wakeboard boat.

I have to say John is a very accommodating individual. He provided the boat fully fueled along with boards, ropes and anything else we needed for a fun filled day on the water. I requested the North Anna side due to the lower air temps this time of year and John was very happy to oblige. Water on warm side was 99 degrees new the plant and 95 degrees at the opposite end so skiing and boarding was perfect.

The boat ran perfectly, never missed a beat, started every time and we had zero issue with anything John had provided. Launching and taking out was a breeze and John did everything he could to ensure the family had a great time on the water. I cant say enough about the whole experience.

We will CERTAINLY use John and his fleet of boats again in the near future. Thanks again John for a perfect weekend.

We had a beautiful day wake boarding on Lake Anna in John's Ski boat. John was extremely helpful getting us out on the water without fuss and with all the gear we needed. His boat well maintained and ran like a dream. Will be back for more next time we're in the area.

This was our third summer renting with John and every year he has come through and delivered a great day of boating. We are trying to get one more day in this summer and will definitely be back next summer!

What a great day.! John was a pleasure to deal with and the boat was super. He even installed the Bimini top to help keep the son off my wife who had just had precancerous cells removed. The listing says max of 6 pax , but the boat is rated for more. Our 7 (all 18+) were very comfortable. John has all the water toys you'd ever need and offered to give pointers to anyone who needed them. This was our first time at Lake Anna and I can't wait to go back. The "warm side" made getting in and out of the water no issue at all.

The boat ran well and was fully stocked with fun gear for my daughter's birthday celebration. John launched the boat at a convenient location on the lake and took me out for test ride before the party showed up to make sure everything was working perfectly.

We absolutely loved our experience with John…He has the perfect boats with everything that you need on the lake. He has the process down perfect… Show up, jump on the lake within minutes and when you’re done jump right back in your car and head home. This was our second time with John and we plan on a bunch more in the future.

John has a great selection of wakeboard boats and equipment to go with it. He was great to coordinate with for pickup and dropoff. Definitely recommend.

Boat is awesome for water sports. Has a ski rope and surf rope and has a cruise control setting which was really handy. John also included water toys at no additional cost. Smooth pickup and dropoff. Would highly recommend!

I took my family to Lake Anna this past week to spend time on the water. I had a boat reserved with another owner for months leading up to this trip. The night before I was to pick up that boat, the owner texted me at 1130pm and cancelled my reservation. With no back up plan. I found John literally last second as a hail mary. he was there the next day. with the boat. a bunch of knowledge of the lake. and his boat ran great! REally nice guy too. I will rent from John again.

John was awesome. Super friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable. And his boat was perfect for our family. He let us use his tube, skis, and wakeboard and we all had a blast. Couldn’t have had a better experience on the lake today. We’ll be back.

My family really enjoyed the Malibu. The boat ran great, pulled tubes, Wake boarders, and surfers with ease. John was easy to work with. His communication was good, and prompt. Would definitely rent from again and try a different boat next time.

John was great. He met us early and spent some time helping us get familiar with the boat. We were able to hold onto it for a little extra time in the evening as well once the water calmed down and was good for skiing. He's very responsive and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend him. The boat was excellent as well. Plenty of power and easy to operate.

Our boat rental with John couldn't have gone better. He provided a great introduction to the boat and excellent instruction on the differences between piloting a stern drive and an inboard. He provided all of the water sports gear that enabled us to have a fabulous day on the lake.

Second time renting from John. Boat is in perfect mechanical condition and works great. John provides you with tubes, wakeboards, kneeboard wake surfer, whatever you need to make a day on the water great.

We had a great time and would do it again. John was flexible with our arrival and drop-off time and spent time teaching me the nuances of driving an inboard boat. The boat is in fair condition on the outside, but it runs really well and has plenty of speed & power. It was able to pull an adult male slalom skier, or 2 kids on a tube, or kneeboarder, etc with a boat full of people with no problem.
