Beginning on April 1, 2016, the cold war era submarine will be available for rent alongside the company’s already expansive fleet of over 2,500 boats. The Красный апреля, or Krasnyy Aprelya, is a Russian, Kilo class submarine that spans 230 feet and is powered by two 1000 KW diesel engines. According to the submarine’s captain Den Durakov, the vessel is fully equipped for voyages up to 45 days and comfortably sleeps up to 30 passengers. For safety reasons, most of the submarine’s arsenal of torpedoes have been removed or deactivated.
“We can’t imagine a more memorable experience than to spend a day on an ex-soviet submarine,” said Pablo Vidal, chief marketing officer of Boatsetter. “We already provide our customers with the ability to enjoy a day on the water, so it only made since to find a way for them to enjoy a day underwater.”
