3 Relaxing Activities to Try Next Time You’re on a Boat
Last Updated on September 24, 2025 by Boatsetter Team
There’s something medicinal about spending the day at the beach, a couple hours fishing on a lake, or even lounging next to the pool. And there are actually science-backed reasons as to why water helps us unwind–such as the phenomena late Marina Biologist Dr. Wallace Nicholas coined the “Blue Mind Theory.” His findings are worth giving a read, but, science-backed or not, carving out some waterside relaxation time is essential to us. So, here are three relaxing activities that can be done on or with a boat.

Floating meditation
Choose early morning or twilight hours for cooler temperatures and quieter surroundings. Drop an anchor in a quiet cove or bay to do some breath work. Focus on the natural sound of water, close your eyes, and meditate for a couple of minutes. Bring a journal and annotate how the change in surroundings made you feel. Go with a more spacious boat for added comfort.

Sunset cruise
Hop on a center console, or cruiser. Find your spot on the water and watch the sun dip below the horizon. Add soft music, comfortable seating, and perhaps some light refreshments to amplify the relaxation factor.
Stargazing
Book a late afternoon/early night boat trip, anchor down in open waters, such as a bay or lake. Lay back to observe the night sky. The gentle movement of the water coupled with open night sky creates a deeply calming experience. Bring your favorite blanket, or find a boat with blankets and cushions (there are many). Choose a night with clear skies and minimal light pollution for the best views.
