Bacardi Cup

For almost a century, the annual Bacardi Cup Invitational Regatta has continued to build momentum and support for the event that features some of the top one-design boats and the athletes who sail them. Throughout the week, spectators along Biscayne Bay can look forward to watching a variety of races by multiple sailing classes including:

  • Star Class
  • J70 Class
  • Melges 24 Class
  • Viper Class
  • Flying Tiger Class

In its 92nd year, the competition will include over 500 sailors from 23 different countries. BACARDÍ Rum has been the main sponsor of the regatta since 1927. They continue to host evening celebrations throughout the week that feature food, drinks, and music. Some of the week’s top social events include:

  • Bacardi Cup Welcome Cocktail Kickoff – Sunday, March 4 at the Coral Reef Yacht Club
  • Mid-Week Party – Wednesday, March 6 at Shake-a-Leg
  • Prize Giving Dinner – Saturday, March 9 at Shake-a-Leg

The first race of the week will give the warning signal at 11:55am for the Star Class on Monday, March 4. On Saturday, March 9, the final race will begin at 11:55am for the Star Class Circle 1.

Sailing Week

The action continues alongside the Bacardi Cup with the celebration of Miami Sailing Week. Celebrating its 10th anniversary of the event, Sailing Week looks to bring together all those who enjoy the sport of sailing with eight different classes invited to participate. Similar to the Bacardi Cup, this regatta draws over 200 sailors from 23 countries.

While the races drive activities throughout the week, there are plenty of social and cultural events to look forward to. One great aspect of Sailing Week is that it actually includes Youth races. These present an awesome opportunity for families to bring their young children out to spectate.

You can learn more about Sailing Week by visiting their official website. To find out more about the area and research things to do and see while visiting, be sure to read our Miami Boating Guide.
