The Key—Biscayne—Times to Hit the Waters

Many boaters across the United States are still dealing with freezing temperatures and cold climates; however, this isn’t the case for residents of South Florida. The “Sunshine State” has always been known for its incredible climate, particularly in areas like Miami and moving further south. If you don’t have the pleasure of living in this warm climate year-round, the least you can do is plan a vacation to escape the cold—even if it is just temporarily.

From February to mid-April, you’ll have a number of events you can attend in and around Key Biscayne, located in Miami, which serve as the perfect excuse to plan your getaway. Here are some of the best times of the year to go boating in Key Biscayne (and be sure to read our boating guide on Key Biscayne).

Miami International Boat Show

Every year at the beginning of February, the Miami International Boat Show brings thousands of boats both big and small from the industry’s top manufacturers to the docks of Miami Marine Stadium. In terms of transportation, the best form of travel to get to the show is by boat—and don’t worry, if you’d like to attend but you’re missing that key ingredient, our team here at Boatsetter can help.

Boat shows are a great way to explore many different boat types and styles. It’s a very hands-on, interactive experience, so you can look forward to sea trialing some of your favorite models and checking out product demonstrations for gear and accessories. The key to attending a boat show is to always plan ahead—because there’s a lot to see and it can get overwhelming for first-time visitors. Before heading to the show, take some time to read our Boat Show Guide.

Spring Break

From early March to mid-April, millions of families and college students alike flock to South Florida for their spring break adventure. Our best piece of advice to make the most of your week? Skip that crowds at the beach and opt for a more personal experience by renting a boat with family and friends. You’ll be able to explore all Key Biscayne has to offer in the comfort of your own boat, instead of pushing through other beach-goers to find a small plot of sand where you can lay your towel.

If you’re new to boating, that’s okay! Do some research by checking out our Tips for First Time Boaters, or you can take the opportunity to learn from others by hiring an experienced boat captain for your outing.

Ultra Music Festival

Last on our list is the Ultra Music Festival. Taking place in late March, this multi-day concert series will be hosted in a brand new location for 2019: in nearby Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and in Miami Marine Stadium. Tickets are available for both general admission and VIP experiences, although we believe there’s another option—listening by boat! Drop your anchor just offshore or raft up with friends. It’ll be an experience that we guarantee you’ll never forget.
