There are a few things we need to be clear about, please read these details, I don't want to surprise you with anything.
Dogs Make Life Better!
Doggos are welcome aboard Rebirtha! However, your lovable furball must have a life vest with a handle to board the boat. They need to have it on at all times. Float Doggy by Stunt Puppy is the one my blue heeler uses.
We know many dogs love the water and love swimming. More importantly, one never knows what will happen out there on the water. The handle is so that when we must get them back on board, RIGHT NOW. It is easy and safe for the puppy and all the humans around them.
Let's keep it clean!
You will see from my reviews that I make keeping Rebirtha clean a priority. The best way to do this, is that when you get out of the water, you and your crew help clean the boat quickly. I will help too!
What to clean?
Take all belongings out of the boat, take the trash out of the boat, check all compartments for your belongings.
Wiping down outside with a post-ride cleaner once over, takes 2 people about 15 minutes.
Wipe down all of the upholstery with a vinyl cleaner, then a second time around with the vinyl conditioner.
Wrap all lines, like you found them.
If you don't want to clean, I will do it all for a $250 fee. I strongly prefer that all of us pitch in and get it done in 15 minutes without charging you the fee.
Please note a cleaning fee of $250.00 will be imposed if the boat is left dirty following the rental. Thank you
Bring 'er back full!
The boat will be full when you take it. You will top up when you are done. Typical day on the water is 20-30 gallons of gas. If you don't have it full when you bring it back, my fee to fill it for you is $50, as well the cost of your fuel.
Hot ashes cause burns in the vinyl upholstery and the Gatorstep (rubber flooring) materials. Vape Pens are acceptable. No smoking of anything ($200 Smoking Fee). If you want a smoke, head to a beach or a public dock, safely shore-up and have a smoke, then head back out on the water.
That's it! No other rules, have a great day on the water! Reach out today I love helping you plan a great day on the water for your friends and family!

I am fully vaccinated (Pfizer) as of April 24th; Invictus is once again available to set sail! I have been doing charters again since May, and it feels GREAT!
That being said, for the time being and likely the rest of 2021 or until the CDC says we have herd immunity PROOF OF CORONAVIRUS VACCINATION WILL BE REQUIRED OF ALL PASSENGERS 12 AND OLDER PRIOR TO BOARDING. This is not a Boatsetter requirement, it is mine; it is not flexible, there will be no exceptions and I am not willing to discuss or debate it. I will not have my boat be the reason that Covid or one of it’s variants was able to spread. The upside is that per CDC guidance since we are all vaxxed masks will will not be required when aboard; we can breathe easy and have some sense of normalcy! All CDC and local health dept. requirements and recommendations will be followed, which is easy when we are all vaccinated. :-)
I anticipate it will be a busy season as stir crazy as we all have going, so booking early is probably a good idea. I am REALLY enjoying taking people out on the Bay again and helping everyone reset and enjoy themselves again! OK, back to the original description:
First off - why am I renting such a nice boat for so little money? I'm a retired fire captain, and while I have been taking friends and family out for the 30 years I have been sailing, I am a recently (2017) certified Coast Guard licensed boat captain, and want to get people going out on my boat so I can hone my skills as a host (we are a package deal... though if you are an experienced sailor I can be very much in the background). I also like to get people out on the water sailing who have not experienced the sport and may not normally have the opportunity. So even though my reviews are all 5 star, my rates are still competitive. :-)
Secondly, why charter with me? There are many choices of very nice boats and fine captains on Boatsetter and other sources, this is a good question. These are some of the reasons why you should come sailing with me:
- While I am a very seasoned and experienced sailor (over 30 years), I only recently became a USCG certified Captain for boats after my retirement from the fire service (my last 10 years as a Captain) and started doing charters (and I love it! I have done nearly 70 charters so far!). I am keenly aware that my competition is very stiff. So the first reason is that bearing this in mind I try to make sure that my boat is one of the least expensive (if not THE least expensive) compared to similar boats, while being just as nice, capable and comfortable. I believe that I am one of the best, and maybe even THE best value for sailing on the Bay.
- I do not charge extra for my services as Captain, and you can be as involved or not involved with the running of the boat as your ability and desire dictate (and I am happy to give informal sailing lessons for those wishing to learn). I also do not charge for fuel (it's a sailboat.... it really doesn't use that much even when the motor is running).
- While I do have a tour that I recommend (because it is hard to beat), we can go wherever you would like, time and circumstances permitting (McCovey Cove to anchor next to a Giants game, Clipper Cove at Treasure Island for some beach time, it's all your call). My usual / recommended tour is pick up at Pier 1 1/2, sail past and do a close flyby of Alcatraz, then out to Angel Island for lunch / beach time / hiking / whatever.
After lunch we sail up along Sausalito / Marin and then out under the Golden Gate Bridge to hopefully spot some porpoises (which I see about 75% of the time) and if we are real lucky maybe even a whale or two (if it's the right time of year, and I have seen them by the Golden Gate a few of times now)!
Then we turn around, and do a nice relaxing downwind sail back in under the Golden Gate, past the San Francisco city waterfront, going by sights such as the Palace of Fine Arts, Fisherman's Wharf (with a WWII liberty ship and submarine), Pier 39 (& the sea lions) and the Embarcadero, finishing up right around 5pm back at Pier 1 1/2.
Sound like an awesome day? That's because it is!
- Personal attention and planning. My services begin long before the day of the charter, as I will work with you prior to the day of your sail to custom tailor your sailing experience to any kind of event.
My charters to date have included six surprise marriage proposals (they all said "YES!"), an overnight 2 day getaway for a couple, and several birthday celebrations. Once you are aboard I am not just your Captain but your host, you will be treated like friends, and I (along with any crew, if present) will do everything I can to provide for your comfort, fun and safety; from having a bluetooth linked stereo ready for your playlist (or you can use my Spotify) to making sure you get the perfect picture while out on our adventure. I LOVE helping people to have a good time!
- As a dad myself who has raised kids going out sailing all the time, children are MORE than welcome aboard Invictus, in fact there is a good chance that my 15 year old son (who has been on sailboats since he was 18 months old) / First Mate will be crewing for me (especially during the summer).
- Also, I don't care who you are, where you're from, the color of your skin, what you look like, who you love, or what you do or don't believe. All are welcome aboard S/V Invictus, and our day will be about sailing, adventure, the sea, discovery and, most of all, FUN! Every time you look out on the Bay I want you to remember our day as a happy place you can go to when all the silly nonsense we all have to deal with back on shore in the real world becomes a bit much. :-) (it's what I do when things start getting to me...).
- Finally, for my brothers and sisters who are still putting themselves in harms way for the benefit of others - all firefighters who are members of the IAFF, active duty law enforcement officers, active duty military, EMTs / Paramedics as well as any currently working nurses or teachers will receive 15% off any booking! My (21 year) watch is over. Thank you for still standing yours. I would love to give you a well-deserved break.
So those are the reasons I think that I stand apart from the other very fine captains and boats available to you, and I would be honored and delighted if you would join me for a great day on the Bay. :-)
Now, about the boat:
Pearson yachts are known for build quality, performance and comfort thanks to their efficient layout and use of space (the larger sister ships to Invictus, the 36 Mark II with the exact same layout and build, were recently featured as one of the best affordable bluewater cruisers in a book dedicated to such - ”Bluewater Sailing on a Budget” by Capt. Jim Elfers).
Invictus is a great example of this, as one of the 33 Mark II models she feels bigger than 33', her 11' beam providing ample elbow room below, her 3 cabin layout providing privacy when desired (with actual doors) and her head, located port and aft, makes for a much less, um, "exciting" experience if you have to use the facilities while underway than more traditional sailboats with the head forward just before the V-berth (where you experience much more of the boat's pitching), and even has a shower (with hot and cold pressurized water).
Invictus also features a VERY large cooler and plenty of storage space for provisions and gear. She has a galley with a sink and hot and cold pressurized water, a propane stove, and a Magma marine BBQ mounted on her stern pulpit. So bring whatever food and beverages you'd like, and we can even fire up the Q!
Thanks to the inventive cabin design, her main salon can comfortably seat 6 for a meal. She also sports new mainsail (February 2020), new standing rigging (as of September 2017) , a 16 hp Yannmar diesel that runs like a swiss clock, depth sounder, knot meter, Raymarine wheel autopilot, chart plotter, radar, 2-speed self-tailing winches, GPS enabled DSC VHF radio, stereo with bluetooth and remote, Pineapple 95% roller furling jib, and a flat screen TV, DVD player and (while on shore power) microwave.

Doesn’t it feel like it’s been too long since we had fun with friends? Not ready yet to throw a big party?
If you’re looking for a safe and fun outdoor alternative, well, we’re happy to help! And have the million $ views to go with that.
Join us for a great day out on the San Francisco Bay.
Bring your pod, the cockpit is large enough for safe social distancing from your Captain, and there is always a breeze going ... the perfect outdoor setting for a break from the remote-work-routine these days!
Bring picnic, and some bubbly, beer or white wine if you’d like to celebrate a special occasion (like being out there on the Bay, just saying ...), just no red wine. You don’t want those stains if the boat rocks. And no hard liquor, trust us, doesn’t really go well when the boat is moving with the waves.
We typically go from the Embarcadero towards Angle Island, around Alcatraz, and to the Golden Gate, passing by Sausalito. But it’s your day! Tell us what you’d like to see. We can adjust our route to anything you like, wind and weather permitting.
One day we even saw whales right under the Golden Gate Bridge - and have the photo to prove it!
With easy passenger pickup at the public dock at Pier 1.5 right next to the Ferry Building, you'll be right in downtown SF, on the Embarcadero, and close to the Oracle Ballbark and SOMA.
See the amazing and ever changing skyline of San Francisco from a great new perspective, on a fun boat that'll treat you well in any weather.
This Catalina 36 is a roomy sail boat that's perfect for enjoying a sail on the Bay, going under the Golden Gate, or mooring at Angel Island for lunch or some afternoon splashing around and having some fun ....
It comes with the safety of a larger keel boat, the known comfort of the Catalina series, and the amenities for making a day sail an excellent way of experiencing the beauty of San Francisco, checking out Alcatraz, or seeing the new span of the Bay Bridge from the water.
Our Captain is a life-long sailer and world circumnavigator who’s built his own boat before taking it around the world (literally) with his wife and two kids.
It's the way to see the Bay, and safely break your Covid routine!
Blue Haven is a well maintained with a classic design that can take you across the finish line or to any anchorage you desire. Red Dress, a vintage J-35 race boat, is sweet handling, fast and roomy. Let her owner, Cap'n Bill, take you and up to five of your friends and/or family on a sailing adventure around San Francisco or out the Gate along the magnificent Marin headlands. Red Dress is a veteran of two SF-Hawaii round trips and extensive coastal cruising. She's just come out of the boatyard with sparkling new paint, refurbished mast and rigging and is tugging at the dock lines. Her new Pineapple jib makes her exceptionally close winded.
Your adventure is limited only by your imagination and my concern for your safety. Bring your kayaks or bikes for a drop off and pickup at Angel Island or Tiburon. Do a culinary tour with lunch on the SF waterfront and dinner in Sausalito and in between do an exhilarating circuit of the Bay on the boisterous afternoon breeze.
Learn to sail a serious ocean going vessel and acquire all the basic cruising skills including crew overboard recovery, reefing, anchoring, and heaving-to. Red Dress's responsiveness and ease of handling makes her an ideal platform for beginners while her speed and windward performance make an exciting ride for the experienced sailor. Welcome aboard.
