Rent a Boat in West Palm Beach

Located on the southeast coast of the Sunshine State, West Palm Beach (WPB) welcomes adventure seekers to explore this elaborate world of turquoise blue waters, mangrove forests, sandy beaches, and waterfront mansions. Home to some of the country’s wealthiest people, this boating hub is also the home port to many international charter yachts and privately owned superyachts. From Palm Beach, it's easy for boaters to access to the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), and you’re in close proximity to destinations like Bimini (Bahamas), Miami, and the Florida Keys—offering a lot to love whether you are passing through or calling WPB home.

What to Know

To enhance your boat rental experience in West Palm Beach, choose from one of these popular boat types:

  • Day boats like pontoons and bowriders are the perfect ride for cruising up and down the Intracoastal Waterway, heading to a sandbar, or pulling up at your favorite dockside restaurant.

  • Rent a motor yacht or larger cruising yacht for birthday celebrations or family reunions—or if you’re looking to celebrate a momentous occasion, like a wedding proposal or corporate event.

  • Heading offshore into the Atlantic can present some rough waters, so it’s best to book a boat that can handle the swells—like a center console, catamaran, or sailboat.

Safety Requirements:

  • Boating License/Education Rules: All Florida residents born after January 1, 1988 who operate vessels with 10-horsepower or more must carry a Florida Boating Safety Education identification card. You must be at least 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft (PWC).

  • Life Jacket Requirements: Children ages 6 and under must wear a PFD.

For more information, visit the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Where to dock your boat, or meet your rental:

Things to Do in West Palm Beach by Boat

Snorkeling Peanut Island

Snorkeling at Peanut Island

Peanut Island is one of Florida’s hidden treasures, nestled within the Intracoastal Waterway near the Lake Worth Lagoon, Riviera Beach. After a quick 5-10 minute boat ride, you and your crew can enjoy the snorkeling lagoon (located along its southeast coast), picnic areas, campgrounds, a fishing pier, walking paths, and more. Plenty of land animals, birds, and marine life call Peanut Island home, and while you’re snorkeling you’ll want to look for stingrays, starfish, parrotfish, barracuda, Atlantic spadefish, and more.

Pro Tips: During the Cold War era, President John F. Kennedy had a secret bomb shelter built on Peanut Island; unfortunately, the bomb shelter is no longer available for tours.

Palm Beach Island Sunrise

Catch the Sunrise at Palm Beach Island

Palm Beach Island is a quiet, exclusive community that is the winter home to some of the world’s most rich and famous, such as former President Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Jimmy Buffett, and Rod Stewart. It is also one of the best places for boaters to catch a breathtaking view of the sunrise on the water. Pack a cooler with breakfast you can eat onboard, and maybe even a mimosa or two if you’ve booked a captained rental. After the sunrise, you can enjoy the rest of your day by taking in the sights of these multi-million dollar mansions or snorkeling along the small breakwaters.

Pro Tips: Palm Island Beach is a close boat ride to Phil Foster Park, which is open to the public from sunrise to sunset and features an underwater snorkeling trail and fishing areas.

Bingham Audubon Preserve (The Bingham Islands) is a scenic, nature escape, sitting just 10 minutes (driving) from West Palm Beach’s downtown area, right near the Mar-a-Lago Club. Protected by the Audubon Society, these islands are bird sanctuaries. Boaters in the area will cruise through some of Florida’s most precious natural features, including subtropical hardwood hammocks, and mangrove forests.

Pro Tips: Manatees are known to frequent the waterways surrounding West Palm Beaches, especially in the winter. Be conscious of manatees and other marine life, and be sure to follow Florida’s Manatee Protection Rules and Zones.
